Advocacy Canada Denounces Harmful Alberta Policies Targeting Trans Youth

In recent weeks, the Alberta Government has introduced policy measures that are deeply concerning for the 2SLGBTQI+ community, particularly transgender youth. Advocacy Canada, along with Egale Canada and the Skipping Stone Foundation, has strongly condemned Alberta’s harmful anti-trans policies.

These changes, which lack any scientific or legal grounding, undermine established medical practices. More importantly, Alberta’s harmful anti-trans policies, target vulnerable individuals at a time when they need support and understanding the most.

The Impact on Transgender Youth

Alberta’s new anti-trans policies could harm transgender youth and families, marginalizing one of society’s most vulnerable groups instead of providing support.

Experts, including medical professionals and psychologists, emphasize that these policies neglect the importance of gender-affirming care for transgender individuals. Instead of promoting inclusion, Alberta’s harmful anti-trans policies perpetuate stigma, harm, and discrimination against trans youth.

Advocacy Canada, in collaboration with national and provincial organizations, stands firm in its opposition to these harmful changes.

These regressive and harmful anti-trans policies undermine established medical practices and deny transgender youth access to essential gender-affirming care. Furthermore, this lack of support can have devastating consequences on the mental and physical health of these vulnerable youth.
