Volunteer Opportunity for Trans Day of Visibility – We Need Your Help!

In solidarity with the struggle for trans rights and in celebration of our community’s beautiful trans voices, we’re excited to announce that Advocacy Canada alongside our title sponsor Kelowna Pride Society, will be hosting Trans Day of Visibility – Together in Celebration: Unbreakable in Solidarity, and we would love for you to join us as a volunteer!

Event Details

  • Location: The Laurel Packinghouse, 1304 Ellis St., Kelowna, BC

As a volunteer, your contribution will help us make this event a success and support our mission of creating a celebration of trans and nonbinary communities, celebrating resilience, providing education, and the need for continued advocacy. We are looking for passionate and dedicated individuals to assist in the following areas:

Role descriptions

Greeters 

Welcome and warmly greet guests as they arrive, ensuring they feel comfortable and informed. Direct guests to key areas such as food, merchandise, and seating. Offer assistance as needed to ensure smooth navigation around the event space. Maintain a friendly and approachable demeanor.

Food and Beverage Helpers

Assist with the setup of food and beverage stations, ensuring everything is neatly arranged and stocked. During the event, monitor food areas to maintain cleanliness, ensuring guests have easy access to items. Refill supplies as needed, and help tidy up any spills or messes. Assist with guest requests for food or beverage.

Merchandise Sales Table

Manage the merchandise table by setting up and arranging products for sale. Greet guests who are interested in purchasing items, answer any questions about the products, and process payments. Ensure that the table remains well-organized and restocked as necessary. Assist with packing down the table at the end of the event

Donation Table

Manage the donation table, encouraging guests to contribute. Provide information on how donations will be used and answer any related questions. Keep track of donations, ensure the table remains neat, and handle any financial transactions. Work together to ensure a smooth donation experience for attendees throughout the event.

Setup

Assist with setting up the venue prior to the event, including arranging tables, chairs, food and beverage stations, signage, and decorations. Ensure all materials for merchandise, donations, and other event functions are ready for the event. Coordinate with other team members to ensure everything is prepared before guests arrive.

Teardown

Help dismantle and clean up the venue after the event. This includes breaking down tables, chairs, and displays, packing up merchandise and donation items, and cleaning any messes. Ensure the space is returned to its original state and assist with any other tasks required to leave the venue ready for the next use.

Tech Support with Zoom & Webcam

Provide technical assistance during the event to ensure seamless operation of the Zoom platform and webcam. Monitor the connection, troubleshoot any technical issues, and assist remote participants with connectivity. Ensure that all virtual participants have a smooth experience and remain engaged throughout the event.

Volunteer Hours

  • Event setup starts at 4 pm – volunteer start times and length will vary based on role
  • Doors open at 6 pm
  • Teardown starts at 8:30 pm
