In Solidarity with our American Trans Neighbours

Trans rights are human rights printed on a cardboard sign.

Wilbur Turner, President of Advocacy Canada

As a Canadian advocacy organization, we stand in solidarity with our neighbours in the United States and with trans, gender diverse, and non-binary individuals everywhere, especially in light of the recent executive order signed by President Donald Trump. This order represents an alarming setback for the rights and recognition of transgender individuals, and we cannot remain silent in the face of such a dangerous erosion of equality and dignity.

We affirm that gender identity is a fundamental human right that must be respected, protected, and celebrated. Regardless of national borders, the fight for justice and equality is universal. Transgender and non-binary individuals, both in the United States and around the world, have the right to live authentically, free from discrimination, violence, or coercion. Any attempt to undo these rights is an affront to the values we hold dear as a global community.

While we recognize the unique struggles faced by trans communities in the U.S., we also remain deeply committed to the ongoing work here in Canada to ensure that our own policies reflect the principles of inclusion, respect, and dignity for all individuals. The challenges facing our American counterparts are a reminder of the critical need to remain vigilant and proactive in defending the rights of marginalized communities everywhere. Remember, trans rights are human rights.
